Texas Style Chicken And Dumplings

Total Time: 1 hr 35 mins Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 10 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 chicken, cut in pieces
  • 1 (10 1/2 ounce) can chicken broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon instant minced onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon sage
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/8 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 10 1/2 ounces chicken broth

Recipe

  • 1 stew chicken in a large pot, barely covered with water and chicken broth.
  • 2 add seasonings.
  • 3 make dumplings while chicken is cooking.
  • 4 combine all ingredients, adding enough flour to make a soft dough.
  • 5 roll out on floured board, cut dough in strips about 1x2 inches.
  • 6 remove chicken from from broth.
  • 7 combine ingredients for gravy together in a saucepan.
  • 8 heat until thickened and add to chicken liquid.
  • 9 drop in dumplings while boiling and cook covered 10 to 15 minutes.
  • 10 add chicken and serve with cranberry sauce.
