Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

- 1 lb dried split peas
- 11 cups water
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1 large onion, chopped fine
- 3 chicken bouillon cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 ham bone or 1 smoked ham hock
Recipe
- 1 sort and rinse split peas.
- 2 combine split peas, water,butter,onion,boullion,garlic,oregano,celery salt and pepper in large dutch oven. bring to a boil then turn down to low heat. simmer 1 hour uncovered.
- 3 add ham bone and carrots. simmer about 1 1/2 hours or until thick, stirring occationally.
- 4 remove ham bone and rinse off. cut meat off bone into small pieces and add back into soup.
- 5 taste for salt add as desired.
